These are some ways you can really get involved.  Below are ideas for you to become an active member in your community, making the air cleaner and guinea pigs happier.
  • Volunteer at the local animal shelter.  They are always happy to have you.  The animals may need cleaning, feeding, and socializing.  Besides taking care of the animals, socializing is also very important.  The more the animals interact the more likely they will be adopted.  They will also have a much better time in the shelter if they are played with and petted.
  • Search online for local wildlife sancuaries, such as Safe Haven Wildlife .  They may not allow direct contact with the animals (which also may depend on age), but they may be in need of envelope stuffers or people to "adopt" the animals.  These places house injured wildlife that may or may not be able to go back into the wild.  Let people know of these places for more support.
  • Knit?  Crochet?  Organizations such as Hugs for Homeless Animals and their Snuggles Project are looking for blankets to give to homeless animals in shelters.  Some of our members find that knitting while watching a movie or TV eliminates the feeling of wasting away in front of the screen.  Also, if done enough, these little projects may help protect you from arthritis.
  • Find preserves in your area that need help to clean up the trash.  Especially in the spring, after the litter build up during the winter months, trash can be found in droves.  By helping clean it up, you are helping create a cleaner environment.
